$10,000 is often the first money people consider annuitizing: an inheritance, a CD that just matured, or the cash left after paying off a car. It won’t replace a paycheck, but it can add a small, permanent amount to what Social Security pays.
Today’s best California quotes turn $10,000 into about $75 a month for life for a 70-year-old man, $71 for a woman the same age and $62 for a 70-year-old couple. Starting at 65 pays about $67; waiting until 75 raises it to about $88.
Note: the figures below are scaled from our $100,000 California quotes. I’ll replace them with direct $10,000 quotes in our next weekly update.
Minimum premiums for immediate annuities vary by carrier, so fewer options may be available at $10,000. I’ll confirm which carriers accept your amount when I quote it.

Best California quotes from our October 12, 2026 update (Securian Financial at every age shown), scaled from a $100,000 premium to $10,000. Non-qualified premium, monthly payments starting about one month after purchase, no cost-of-living increase; joint quotes are for a man and a woman of the same age. *Years of life-only payments to equal the premium, before taxes. Actual $10,000 quotes can differ slightly because some carriers price by premium band.
Is a $10,000 Immediate Annuity Worth It?
At about $75 a month, $10,000 adds roughly $900 a year for life for a 70-year-old man. That’s real money, but at this size two questions matter more than the rate:
- Do you have an emergency fund? Once payments start, the $10,000 is generally gone for good. If this is most of your cash, keeping it accessible usually matters more than an extra $75 a month.
- Will the carrier accept it? Minimum premiums vary, so there may be fewer quotes to choose from at this amount.
$10,000: Lifetime Income or Guaranteed Interest?
| 70-year-old man | Immediate annuity (life only) | 5-year MYGA, interest taken yearly |
|---|---|---|
| Income | $75 a month for life | About $49 a month for 5 years |
| The $10,000 afterward | Used up to create the income | Still yours when the term ends |
| Basis | Best California life-only quote | 5.85% guaranteed (Reliance Standard Eleos MVA 5, from $10,000) |
At $10,000 the gap is about $26 a month: the immediate annuity pays more, but the MYGA hands back your $10,000 after five years, which often matters more with a small amount. Current terms for every insurer are on our California MYGA rates page.
Questions About a $10,000 Annuity
Can I buy an immediate annuity with only $10,000?
Often yes, but minimums vary by carrier, so you may see fewer quotes than at larger amounts. Ask for quotes from several insurers before deciding.
Is $75 a month worth giving up $10,000?
It depends on whether you need the cash. A 70-year-old man would need about 11 years of payments to receive his $10,000 back, before taxes. If you might need the money sooner, a MYGA or savings account keeps it available.
