How Much Does a $300,000 Annuity Pay Per Month? (October 2026)

Updated October 16, 2026 by Kevin Edwards, California-licensed annuity agent (License #0D42517). Based on California SPIA quotes from our October 12, 2026 update.

With $300,000, timing can matter as much as the carrier. Immediate annuity payouts rise with age, so some retirees buy in stages instead of all at once.

At today’s best California quote, $300,000 pays a 70-year-old man about $2,249 a month for life. For a 70-year-old woman it’s about $2,124, and for a 70-year-old couple about $1,863. The same premium pays about $2,006 starting at 65 and $2,634 starting at 75.

Best California quotes from our October 12, 2026 update (Securian Financial at every age shown), scaled from a $100,000 premium to $300,000. Non-qualified premium, monthly payments starting about one month after purchase, no cost-of-living increase; joint quotes are for a man and a woman of the same age. *Years of life-only payments to equal the premium, before taxes. Actual $300,000 quotes can differ slightly because some carriers price by premium band.

Buying in Two Stages With $300,000

Using today’s California quotes, a 70-year-old man who annuitizes all $300,000 gets about $2,249 a month. Another approach: annuitize $150,000 now for about $1,125 a month and put the other $150,000 in a 5-year MYGA at 6.10%. After five years it would be worth about $201,682. At today’s age-75 rates, that would buy about $1,771 a month more, for a total near $2,896 a month from age 75.

This assumes age-75 payout rates in five years look like today’s, which isn’t guaranteed. Rates could be higher or lower then, and the first five years pay less. It’s a trade-off, not a free lunch.

$300,000: Lifetime Income or Guaranteed Interest?

70-year-old man Immediate annuity (life only) 5-year MYGA, interest taken yearly
Income $2,249 a month for life About $1,525 a month for 5 years
The $300,000 afterward Used up to create the income Still yours when the term ends
Basis Best California life-only quote 6.10% guaranteed (Aspida Synergy Choice 5, $100,000+)

With $300,000, the immediate annuity pays about $724 a month more than MYGA interest, which is why staging the purchase, as above, is worth pricing. Current terms for every insurer are on our California MYGA rates page.

Questions About a $300,000 Annuity

Is it better to buy an annuity at 70 or 75?

Payouts are higher at 75 (about $2,634 a month on $300,000 for a man versus about $2,249 at 70), but you’d collect for fewer years. Buying in stages hedges the decision.
